Renew Australia hits the road with a tour of most capital cities to teach you the nuts and bolts of how to transform empty spaces in your community.

Making the most of empty spaces with creative enterprise is an introduction workshop for anyone interested in turning an empty space into something productive.

Presented by Marcus Westbury, founder of Renew Newcastle and Renew Australia, each day-long event will ensure you leave with an understanding of how to link enterprise with empty spaces – from finding creatives to gaining the support of landlords and everything in between.

    this is way too expensive. I would have gone but the price is outrageous. Most people working in the arts are not going to be able to afford this

    Do you by chance have any plans to present one of these in Brisbane in 2013 Marcus?

    We have already done one in Brisbane in recent months. There’s a good chance we’ll try again later in the year if there’s demand.

    Hi Deary,

    Prices are basically set by what it costs us to put these on. Travel + Room hire + accommodation and, ideally, getting paid to be there for the day do add up quite a bit. Renew Australia receives NO GOVERNMENT FUNDING for these workshops or for any of other core programs.

    We recently held a conference in Newcastle that was sponsored by government and that meant we were able to subsidise either fully (including airfare travel and accommodation) or partially (just ticket cost, free food, attendance and social events) scores of people. We have also been pretty generous with offering complementary places to people whose community work warrants it.

    The upshot though is either the participants pay, someone else (eg. govt pays) or we do. Unfortunately we can’t afford to.
