Melissa opened her business in 2017 as a dressmaker and expanded to be a manufacturer for other local designers, teaching sewing classes and she’s now creating her own brand. She uses the space as an open-to-the-public workspace, to film online sewing courses, teach people how to create a sustainable and ethical fashion brand and host custom design clients for individual tailoring.
The space is part studio, part retail store and part workshop. She uses the shopfront to highlight the process of pattern-making and sewing. Other participants in the Renew Cairns project are benefiting from using wall space within Bespoke Stitchery to display artworks. Melissa is active on social media and will be a great advocate for the area, the property owners and Renew Cairns.
