Yakal. is a gallery and workspace where visitors access locally crafted works and engage directly with the artists. The space has been beautifully transformed by the Yakal. team, who have experience curating and exhibiting at national galleries. The gallery features a number of large works including oil canvases, wooden totem figures, grinding stones, and traditional tools and weapons. Another practice medium is photography and videography of local landscapes and local traditional owners.
Bernard Lee Singleton, an Umpila, Djabugay/Yirrgay man, is an accomplished craftsman, performer, curator and designer, born and living in Cairns.
Simone Arnol, a Gunggandji – Yarrabah woman, is a nationally awarded fashion designer, artist, and photographer. Simone also runs the Yarrabah Art Centre.
