Gladstone Regional Council has partnered with Renew Australia, a national social enterprise that supports community renewal and local economic development, to explore the potential for a creative activation project in the region.
As part of this initial scoping study, Renew Australia will engage with property owners, managing agents and the local creative community to better understand interest in activating vacant spaces in Gladstone. Through interviews and online surveys Renew will gather insights from the key stakeholder groups to assess the level of enthusiasm and participation potential for a future activation initiative.
Renew Australia’s model connects property owners and agents with creative enterprises to fill empty shops and spaces using rent-free or low-cost 30-day rolling licenses. These short-term agreements allow local creatives and entrepreneurs to test ideas in real-world settings without the burden of long leases or high overheads.
This approach helps bring life to underused areas, sparks community engagement, and supports emerging local businesses and artists.
Are you a Gladstone artist, creative, or an entrepreneurial business owner? We’d love you to complete a quick online survey to tell us about your practice, project or business. Click here to complete by 5pm, Friday 4th of July.
If you have any questions about the scoping study or the surveys, please contact Renew Australia at alice@renewaustralia.org.
