Hobsons Bay City Council has engaged Renew Australia, a national social enterprise focused on community renewal and economic development, to undertake an urban renewal scoping study within Williamstown encompassing Ferguson Street, Nelson Place and Douglas Parade.
Working with the Hobson’s Bay community, Renew will conduct several surveys to collect feedback from key stakeholder groups:
The aim of the study is to re-activate the precinct and improve local foot traffic. The feedback from these surveys will assist Renew Australia and Council to better understand if an appetite exists to initiate a Renew Australia activation project in the Williamstown precinct.
If there is an appetite, Renew Australia will work with property managers, owners and agents to activate vacant spaces with creative enterprises on a rent-free or low rent 30-day rolling licences.
Renew Australia projects provide space for new and creative enterprises to trial an idea with minimal overheads in otherwise vacant space. This process not only provides visible creative space, it also encourages and displays a new form of use in traditional main streets and precincts that encourage community engagement and activity.
Should you have any questions regarding these surveys, or how to get involved, please contact Renew Australia via email projects@renewaustralia.org.
Renew Australia – Williamstown Scoping Study has been made possible with the support and partnership of Hobsons Bay City Council.
